Stand off between Censor Board and Anurag Kashyap

Stand off between Censor Board and Anurag Kashyap

Anurag Kashyap's forthcoming film Ugly was slated to release on 11th October, but suddenly the release was moved forward to next year to January 3rd.

Apparently it was Anurag’s unwillingness to carry the 'Cigarette smoking is injurious to health' disclaimer in the smoking scenes featured in the film which lead to it getting pushed. Anurag Kashyap has submitted his film Ugly for censor certificate on 16th September and hasn't got it yet.

There was a case earlier wherein Woody Allen too had refused to release his Cate Blanchett-starre Blue Jasmine in India for the same reason.

Spokesperson of DAR Motion Pictures and Phantom Films, both co producers, added, "The CBFC has directed us to insert a disclaimer in shots where a cigarette is visible, for the film to be certified. We are not carrying the disclaimer and are currently engaged in a dialogue with the Board. If the issue is not sorted out to our satisfaction, we will consider other options."
